Calling Chris Cook a failure would be insulting to failure.
Untalented pariah is more fitting.
Dedicated to the Pain AND Pleasure that is the Minnesota Vikings

St Paddy’s Day is one of my all-time favorite holidays.
Not so much for the green beer, Guinness Extra Stout, or multiple rounds of Irish Car Bombs anymore – although they are all still delicious and very much have their place on this holiday. But more for what time of year the day signifies:
Warm weather is on the way, college basketball actually matters, and the NFL Draft is near.
Some random thoughts to have with your coffee (hopefully Irish Coffee) after the jump.
Jared Allen continues to be on the sideline as other veteran pass rushers are signed and given trunkloads of gold and booty.
Henry Melton to visit Vikings on Thursday. Story at http://t.co/yCcX4sISAG

Bears DT Henry Melton is scheduled to visit the Vikings on Thurdsay.
If we added Melton, that would likely mark the end of the Kevin Williams era in Minnesota.
Jared Allen wants his fair value after averaging 13 sacks. I’m told he’d be at peace living his life without football if he doesn’t get it.

Jared’s finding that the market isn’t kind for veteran pass rushers on the wrong side of 30.
I’m a fully admitted Vikings homer.
But I also consider myself a realist. A person who can be both subjective while being objective about our favorite football team. And even if I was a full on Vikings pessimist (you know who you are), it’d be hard NOT to be excited about the 2014 season.
The 5-10-1 left a bad taste in our mouths. Mostly because a handful of those games were a play here or there away from us coming out with a W instead of a soul crushing defeat (CHI, CLE, DAL, BAL) or a freakin’ tie to the worst people imaginable (GB).
I didn’t think a full reboot was necessary, I actually thought Leslie had a chance to stay for a 4th year if the defensive staff was overhauled. But looking back now, a factory restore was the better option.
To quote Anthony Anderson’s character from “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle”, “POOKIE! LET”S BURN THIS MOTHER F*CKA DOWN!”
The Vikings signed former Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph on Tuesday, about an hour and a half into the official opening of free agency (4pm EST). Per ESPN, the contract is a 5-year deal worth $31.5 million.
Joseph (or LJ as we’ll affectionately call him from now on) will be going into his 5th NFL season after spending his first four with the Giants as a 2nd Round pick (46th overall) in the 2010 Draft out of East Carolina.
Strictly as a Punt Returner going forward, Marcus Sherels is a better option than the soon to be former Bear Devin Hester.
With all due respect to Mr. Hester and his three All-Pro selections, NFL record 13 career punt return Tds & record 20 career combined punt & kick return Tds, his spot on the 2000s All Decade Team, and 8-seasons of being the most dangerous return man in football, his time is waning.
As the future Pompey the Great remarked to then Roman Dictator Sulla, “More people worship the rising sun than the setting sun.” Hester’s sun is setting while Sherel’s is rising.
Marcus’ sun may never rise as high or be as bright as Hester’s in the overall sky, but he’s a better option right now and into the future for three main reasons: Age/Cost, Current/Future Production, and Other Contributions
The Mullet Man is gone.
Jared Allen and the Vikings will part ways in 2014, after his contract expires Tuesday. He came to Minnesota via trade with the Chiefs in 2007. Jared played 6 years in the Purple recording 85.5 sacks. His 128.5 career sacks put him 12th on the all time list.
Adrian Peterson thinks Michael Vick would make the 2014 version of our favorite Purple football team a playoff team. That’s nice. Continue reading
