Jared Allen wants his fair value after averaging 13 sacks. I’m told he’d be at peace living his life without football if he doesn’t get it.

Jared’s finding that the market isn’t kind for veteran pass rushers on the wrong side of 30.
JA made just north of $14m in 2013, the final year of the 6-year, $72.36m deal he signed in 2008 after coming over from the Chiefs.
There’s absolutely no chance he’ll sniff a fraction of that number in 2014 and that could be prompting the talks of retirement per Rapoport’s report.
I could see him getting offers like Dwight Freeney’s Chargers deal last year, 2-yrs for 8.75M. Freeney was 33 at the time and had just been let go by the Colts.
The fact that edge players like DeMarcus Ware, Justin Tuck, Julius Peppers have flooded the market is certainly hurting Jared’s offers. And the draft is replete with 4-3 DEs (Clowney, Ealy, Ford, Murphy, Jeffcoat) that will be younger and cheaper. The price for goods goes way down when supply exceeds demand.
Ware ending up getting 3-years, $30M with $20M guaranteed from the Broncos. That’s a heckuva lot of money for a pass rusher that’s going to be 32 by the start of the season. The same age as Jared.
This was interesting, also per Rapoport:
That deal Broncos signed Ware to? They had the same 3-year, $30M deal on the table for Jared Allen. DEN waited to see who was free. Ware was

If that offer was indeed on the table, Jared may sour at offers other offers that won’t be near that lucrative. They’ll definitely be more Freeney-ish than Ware-ish.
If he wants to keep playing, I hope he gets the chance to. He’s one of my all time favorite players to watch.
But he may have to adjust his thinking on what is his “fair value”.
